On behalf of the Jesuit Athletic Department, we’d like to thank you for supporting Ranger athletics.  The baseball team fell to Klein Oak on Friday, May 27, with finals scores of 10-6 in game one, and 10-9 in game two.  With the conclusion of baseball season, Jesuit now turns its eyes to our final sporting event of the year: Jordan Spieth’s run in the Byron Nelson.

This year, for the first time ever, we will bring you live play-by-play of Jesuit baseball as the Rangers advance to the Regional Semifinals in the UIL 5A State Playoffs.  After more than a year since the soccer state championship, the Jesuit Ranger Webcast crew is back for our first ever broadcast of Jesuit baseball.

Thursday, April 8

Game Recap:  For the third year in a row, the Rangers faced the Highlanders of El Paso Bel Air.  But this time, the stakes were higher: a Regional Championship.  With the wind at their back, the Highlanders took control in the first half.  Martin Fuentes, Bel Air’s leading goal scorer, put one in in the 26th minute to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead at the half.  But Jesuit came out of the locker room on fire, and senior Matt Fredericks burried a shot in the 49th minute to tie the game.  After 50 more minutes of scoreless soccer, the Region I Final headed to a dribble up shoot out for the second year in a row.

Both teams scored on their first two attempts, with Jesuit’s David Reilly and Mark Daus netting their dribble ups.  After both teams missed their third attempts, junior Hansel Reyes beat the keeper to put Jesuit up 3-2 in the shoot out.  Bel Air missed high on their fourth shot, which put Jesuit in possition to win on the last shot.  Senior Matt Fredericks stepped up, walked in, and beat the Bel Air keeper on the left side.  Jesuit won the shoot out 4-2, won the game 2-1, and won Region I after an undefeated season.

Up Next: For the first time since 2006, the Jesuit Rangers are headed to the UIL State Tournament.  The 5A Boys Semifinal games in this tournament take place at 4:00 and 6:00 on Thursday this week.  We’re still unsure which time Jesuit will play.  The UIL has not released game times or opponents yet for the tournament.  Here are the four regional champions, Texas’s High School Soccer Final Four… Region 1: Dallas Jesuit, Region 2: The Woodlands, Region 3: Houston Strake Jesuit, Region 4: Austin Westlake.

Jesuit vs. El Paso Bel Air
3:00 – Midland, TX

Game Recap:  The Rangers headed back to West Texas for the Regional Semifinal against the Thunderbirds of El Paso Coronado.  Through the first half of play, neither team had a serious threat.  But it didn’t take the Rangers long to get on the board in the 2nd half.  Senior captain Trey Reyfield ripped a shot from 20 yards out and beat the keeper on the left side.  The goal was the only tally of the game, and put the Rangers in the Regional Finals for the third year in a row.

Up Next: The Rangers are no strangers to the Region I Final.  In 2008, Jesuit fell to Flower Mound Marcus 1-0 in a controversial game at Pennington Field.  In 2009, the Plano Wildcats ended the Rangers’ season in Midland with a heartbreaking shootout victory.  Now, in 2010, Jesuit hopes to earn a path to the state tournament.  The Rangers face the Highlanders of El Paso Bel Air, a team that is currently 27-1 on the season.  The game kicks off at 3:00.
